I’m currently recruiting for a Senior Ecologist to play a key role in delivering high-quality ecological services that help clients meet regulatory requirements while supporting environmentally responsible development. From Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) consultancy to protected species surveys and ecological licensing, you will contribute to projects that balance development with conservation.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage a range of ecological surveys and mitigation projects.
  • Conduct and oversee Phase 1/UK Habitat Classification surveys and protected species assessments.
  • Produce expert-level ecological reports, including Preliminary Ecological Appraisals (PEA) and Ecological Impact Assessments (EcIA).
  • Mentor and support junior team members, helping to build a strong, knowledgeable team.
  • Liaise with clients, contractors, and stakeholders to provide sound ecological advice.
  • Contribute to maintaining and developing strong client relationships, ensuring the delivery of high-standard consultancy services.

Requirements

  • Degree in Ecology, Environmental Science, or a related discipline.
  • A minimum of four years’ professional experience in ecological consultancy.
  • Proven field skills and expertise in protected species and habitat surveys.
  • Comprehensive understanding of UK ecological legislation and planning policy.
  • Excellent technical report writing skills aligned with CIEEM best practice.
  • Strong commercial awareness and experience in client management.
  • Ideally hold Bat and/or Great Crested Newt (GCN) survey licenses (Level 1 or above preferred).
  • Full UK driving license.
  • Membership of CIEEM (or actively working towards it).
