We are currently supporting our client, a forward-thinking UK-based maritime technology company, in their search for a talented CAD Designer. This innovative organisation, headquartered in London, is focused on developing next-generation energy solutions for the maritime and heavy industry sectors.
Role Summary: The CAD Designer is responsible for developing technical drawings and rendered images.
Key Responsibilities:
- Translating design concepts and sketches into 2D and 3D models using computer aided design software (AutoCAD, SolidWorks) to develop them into technical drawings and visual representations.
- 3D modelling of vessels and production of photo realistic rendering of these using SolidWorks Visualize.
- Modification of existing models.
- Producing Conceptual Design drawings in collaboration with the AET and NET engineers and naval architects.
- Production of high-quality 2D ship design drawings using AutoCAD, including General Arrangements, Structural Drawings, Schematics and Safety Plans.
- Interpreting project briefs to conceptualize viable designs.
- Conducting quality assurance checks to ensure that products meet design and engineering specifications.
- Open and honest collaboration with the AET and NET engineers and naval architects to ensure the accuracy and feasibility of designs, identifying clashes and flagging issues and concerns.
- Oversight and active participation in project work including creation of innovative solutions and presentation to Team Leads and other project stakeholders.
- Knowledge, compliance and dissemination of industry Drafting Standards and techniques.
- Awareness of current developments in software, CAD skills and related training opportunities.
- Maintaining company records including drawing register (as applicable), filing system, drawing block library.
Job Requirements:
- Strong Technical design skills: Strong understanding of design principles and technical specifications (qualifications such as BTEC Level 4 Mechanical Engineering will be considered).
- Proficiency in CAD software.
- Proficiency in SolidWorks and 3D Rendering software (SolidWorks Visualize).
- Strong ability to communicate clearly with others.
- Undertake any other special projects as discussed and agreed with your line manager.
- Undertake other duties as required from time to time by senior management.
Preferred Qualifications and Experience:
- Educational Requirements: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent preferred. Suitable qualifications in AutoCAD, SolidWorks, and 3D Rendering software.
- Work Experience: Experience working on the design team of commercial and/or defense vessels. Proven experience working as a CAD Technician within the marine industry, with relevant experience in ship design concept drawings development. Proven experience with AutoCAD, SolidWorks, and 3D Rendering software (SolidWorks Visualize). Familiar with maritime industry Draughting practices and standards. Experience with working in a multi-disciplinary team and contributing to a holistic design objective.

- Able to provide examples to illustrate experience of rendering and developing technical drawings.
- Able to produce ship design concept drawings.
- Technical proficiency with using AutoCAD, SolidWorks, and 3D Rendering software.
