About the Role

As the Laboratory Manager , you’ll oversee the day-to-day operations of a UKAS-accredited lab, combining hands-on technical work with leadership responsibilities. You’ll ensure compliance with standards like BS EN ISO, ASTM, and ASME , deliver reliable testing results, and foster a collaborative, efficient team environment.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting metallurgical testing equipment.
  • Conducting and supervising metallographic and mechanical testing (tensile, impact, microstructural analysis).
  • Mentoring and managing a small team, including an apprentice, to ensure growth and technical excellence.
  • Managing lab budgets, client communication, and quality assurance processes.

About You

We’re looking for a motivated professional with:

  • A degree in Metallurgy, Materials Science , or a related field (previous work experience in a similar role will be considered in the absence of formal qualification).
  • Proven experience in metallurgical testing and hands-on use of advanced lab equipment as well as metallurgical testing machineries.
  • Knowledge of quality standards (BS EN ISO, ASTM, ASME ) and lab management.
  • a passion for mentoring and team development previously leadership experience is not a must
