Responsibilities
- Inspect and repair pneumatic, hydraulic, electronic, electrical, and mechanical systems on thermoforming equipment.
- Perform preventive maintenance procedures as specified in the QSI system.
- Complete work assigned by the Group Leader or Assistant Group Leader.
- Communicate activities with the Group Leader and other department members.
- Maintain a neat and orderly appearance of the shop and printing equipment.
- Obtain parts in emergency situations.
- Assist in other departments as requested by the Group Leader or Assistant Group Leader.
- Seek training to stay current with job requirements.
- Take control of the machine when a situation arises that has the potential for personal injury or rapid deterioration of the machine.
Qualifications
Education: High school diploma or GED equivalent. Willingness to complete an apprenticeship program.
Practical: Relevant past work experience. Ability to accept responsibility for work performed. Ability to work independently and with others. Ability to work independently in potentially isolated areas. Knowledge of mechanical systems. Basic troubleshooting skills. Self-motivated and disciplined, adhering to all Berry Plastics codes of ethics, safety policies, and rules. Adequate verbal communication skills to use radio or paging systems. Ability to safely operate a forklift independently, maintaining all applicable training requirements, especially in high traffic and low clearance areas, without posing safety risks to others.
Physical Expectations: Hearing sufficient to recognize alarms and horns. Stereo optical vision of 20/40 or better, peripheral vision of 70 degrees or greater, and ability to read 10–12-point font at 12-18 inches. Ability to see and identify colors (complete an Ishihara color vision test). Ability to stand/walk for 11 hours during a 12-hour shift. Ability to manipulate tools and parts with both hands. Ability to work at heights (with or without fall protection). No risk of sudden alterations in consciousness. Ability to lift at least 35 pounds multiple times per day. Ability to push/pull loads of approximately 45 lbs multiple times per day. Ability to work in extreme heat/cold. Ability to work overhead or in awkward positions frequently. Ability to climb on and off a forklift safely and independently.
