Our client, who plays a key role in supporting competition within the non-household retail water market, is looking for a Policy Officer to join their team on a 6 month FTC. As the Policy Officer, you will help devise, manage and deliver government and stakeholder relations activities with a particular focus on the impact of policy and the changing political environment. It’s a varied and hands-on position where you’ll provide internal stakeholders with policy insight, strategic advice, and high-quality written materials. Key responsibilities for a Policy Officer:

  • Track political and regulatory developments providing timely analysis on their potential impact.
  • Prepare tailored briefing materials and meeting packs to support the SLT.
  • Monitor parliamentary questions and press activity to keep stakeholders informed.
  • Carry out horizon scanning across policy and regulatory areas.
  • Provide secretariat support for a strategic industry panel.
  • Produce clear and engaging policy briefings, external communications and stakeholder content.
  • Write high-quality reports and analysis documents to support decision-making.
  • Attend stakeholder meetings and industry events, supporting effective engagement.
  • Build and maintain strong internal relationships, including regular contact with SLT.

Skills and experience required for a Policy Officer:

  • Familiarity with political and regulatory processes, with experience in the utilities sector.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience in producing detailed, accurate policy/regulatory content.
  • Background in policy, public affairs, government relations or a similar field.
  • Able to manage your own workload and juggle multiple deadlines independently.
  • Confident communicator, comfortable presenting and contributing in meetings.
  • A team player who’s happy to step into different areas when needed.
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
