Our client, who plays a key role in supporting competition within the non-household retail water market, is looking for a Policy Officer to join their team on a 6 month FTC. As the Policy Officer, you will help devise, manage and deliver government and stakeholder relations activities with a particular focus on the impact of policy and the changing political environment. It’s a varied and hands-on position where you’ll provide internal stakeholders with policy insight, strategic advice, and high-quality written materials. Key responsibilities for a Policy Officer:
- Track political and regulatory developments providing timely analysis on their potential impact.
- Prepare tailored briefing materials and meeting packs to support the SLT.
- Monitor parliamentary questions and press activity to keep stakeholders informed.
- Carry out horizon scanning across policy and regulatory areas.
- Provide secretariat support for a strategic industry panel.
- Produce clear and engaging policy briefings, external communications and stakeholder content.
- Write high-quality reports and analysis documents to support decision-making.
- Attend stakeholder meetings and industry events, supporting effective engagement.
- Build and maintain strong internal relationships, including regular contact with SLT.
Skills and experience required for a Policy Officer:
- Familiarity with political and regulatory processes, with experience in the utilities sector.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience in producing detailed, accurate policy/regulatory content.
- Background in policy, public affairs, government relations or a similar field.
- Able to manage your own workload and juggle multiple deadlines independently.
- Confident communicator, comfortable presenting and contributing in meetings.
- A team player who’s happy to step into different areas when needed.
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
