A growing SaaS InsurTech, backed by a global financial services group, is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead and grow a cross-functional development team working on a mission-critical Rules Engine platform as part of a major tech transformation. This role is ideal for someone who thrives at the intersection of people leadership, delivery execution and technical strategy.
The Engineering Manager will join a company that’s transforming how life insurance is bought and underwritten - building modern, cloud-native solutions used by insurers and advisors around the world. As Engineering Manager, you’ll focus on enabling your team to deliver high-quality software, foster a culture of technical excellence and collaboration as well as contributing to the company’s broader engineering leadership.
What the Engineering Manager will be doing:
- Leading, coaching and developing a squad of engineers working on a core Rules Engine product.
- Driving team delivery, ensuring high performance, scalability, and maintainability of software systems while guiding systems design decisions.
- Supporting and mentoring engineers in their career growth, goal setting, and performance.
- Partnering closely with product management to shape roadmaps, prioritise work, and ensure alignment between business goals and engineering execution.
- Championing DevOps best practices, CI/CD improvements, and cloud-native architecture.
- Improving team processes, facilitating agile ceremonies, and fostering continuous improvement.
- Collaborating with fellow engineering managers and senior leaders to define and execute the wider engineering strategy.
- Playing an active role in recruitment, onboarding, and growing a high-performing, inclusive engineering culture.
What You Bring:
- Proven experience as an Engineering Manager or in a similar people leadership role within a software development environment.
- Strong technical background - ideally in Java, Spring Boot, Kubernetes, AWS - with the ability to support engineers in making sound architectural decisions.
- A passion for mentoring and growing engineering talent, creating a team culture built on trust, autonomy, and accountability.
- Excellent collaboration and communication skills, able to engage effectively with product, stakeholders, and senior leadership.
- A pragmatic approach to balancing long-term technical health with short-term delivery needs.
