We’re working with a specialist engineering consultancy that’s growing its UK team and looking to hire a permanent HV Cable Design Engineer. This is a fantastic opportunity to work on major UK and international energy infrastructure projects, offering strong autonomy and technical variety.
Role Overview
You’ll be involved in high-voltage (HV) cable system design up to 525kV. Your work will span all stages of the project lifecycle, from feasibility studies to detailed installation designs.
Responsibilities include:
- HV cable route assessments and feasibility reports
- Thermal analysis of cable systems (including FEM)
- Design reviews, 3D modelling, and installation drawings
- Technical documentation, specs, and constructability input
- Factory inspections, FAT witnessing, and client support
- Impressed voltage and fault studies
- Interfacing with civil design teams for cable structures and foundations
What We’re Looking For
- Strong experience in HV cable design (132kV and above)
- Solid grasp of UK grid codes, standards, and safety practices
- Experience with FEM tools and cable system calculations
- Comfortable managing documentation and client communication
- Able to contribute to design assurance and reviews
- Degree in Electrical Engineering (or similar)
