The Role
As a Senior Financial Accountant (SFA) for the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) you will be part of a specialist team that sits at the heart of the finance department. The team provides expert advice, support and challenge to DVSA managers, ensuring compliance with all statutory, regulatory and best practice accounting standards and requirements. We produce statutory reports and manage the balance sheet, including managing fixed asset register.
As a senior member of the Financial Accounting team the job holder is expected to participate across the full breadth of the team’s remit whilst specialising in one of the areas. The area of specialisation will be rotated through the team to encourage staff development. The roles we are currently recruiting will specialise initially in either Financial Accounting or Fixed Asset Accounting.
- Financial Accounting – Take lead responsibility for the financial assurance and governance of DVSA. To include managing DVSA accounting policies, ensuring compliance with IFRS and FReM, production of the Annual Report and Accounts and managing the period end close process as well as taking ownership for the audit process.
- Fixed Asset Accounting – Maintaining governance and control over the fixed asset base of DVSA. This involves becoming the key point of expertise regarding DVSA’s fixed asset registers, supporting and contributing to the DVSA’s capital strategy, ensuring compliance with IFRS and FReM, and producing regular monthly reports to Boards and the relevant elements of the Annual Report and Accounts.
The role may include line management of other members of the team.
Person specification
You will be a qualified accountant. You will have experience of working with IFRS, FReM or other statutory reporting frameworks. You will preferably have experience of SAP (or similar financial system), and experience of working in Finance in a large, complex organisation. You will be analytical, well organised and passionate about making a difference. We are looking for people who build relationships and work well as part of a team.
