Prestigious Global Insurer

Leeds, Manchester or Birmingham

Attractive salary (Negotiable) plus 20% bonus & benefits

It is unusual for a global insurer’s northern branch to have such a key role; one with such far-reaching influence across its diverse Property portfolio. Perhaps it shouldn’t be surprising; this dynamic insurer has never baulked of doing things differently – and accordingly, we are keen to hear from innovative Property underwriting experts who have a fresh perspective, and aren’t afraid of challenging the status quo. With these attributes, you will be able to share this insurer’s passion for delivering exceptional client-service, and its commitment to using ingenuity and technical expertise to underwrite business in a way that other firms simply can’t.

As Technical Underwriting Manager, your Property expertise will be called upon across a range of business areas (Care, Charities, Equine, Life Science, etc.) as well as other exciting new products that are being developed. You’ll be advising on Property-related underwriting risks and wordings, managing governance, and overviewing how Property risks are underwritten (flood exposures, crime stats, etc.) and setting risk appetite as appropriate. In addition, you will support the ‘Heads of’ of other business areas (such as Liability or Financial Lines) on Property-related issues.

Other duties will include:

  • Portfolio management of the Property account, supporting overall development, growth and profitability.
  • Supporting Underwriting Managers with profitable growth within their respective business lines including UK Retail and International operations.
  • Responding to top tier referral business from Underwriters, delegated coverholders and the claims department in accordance with underwriting authorities.
  • Working as part of the underwriting team to help build skills, product knowledge and capability across the underwriting function.
  • In conjunction with the other business functions, supporting continuous improvement of technical underwriting guides and tools.
  • Reviewing and analysing new portfolio, scheme or facility opportunities presented by the sales teams.
  • Driving and raising awareness across broker development and underwriting sales communities.
  • Supporting the sales teams in strategic broker discussions; responding to market tenders and attending client meetings.

We are open to applications from candidates who are currently in a similar position, as well as ambitious Senior Property Underwriters, who are looking to take the next step in their career. It is essential that you have an extensive background within commercial Property underwriting. This should be coupled with strong technical product knowledge, an awareness of market dynamics, and an understanding of the regulations regarding underwriting and insurance product distribution. You should also have excellent stakeholder-management skills, together with the gravitas and communication skills to secure ‘buy in’ from all parties.

In return, you will receive a generous basic salary, plus 20% bonus and an impressive array of company benefits. As you would expect for such a high-profile role, where your successes are visible to the board, you will also receive a myriad of opportunities for career progression. This is a hybrid-working role based out of either Leeds, Birmingham or Manchester.
