Our Trusts and Tax Team
Our highly regarded specialist team works with clients on all aspects of the administration of trusts. Our team removes the stress of completing annual accounts, tax returns, HRMC compliance and dealing with the day-to-day requests from beneficiaries for funds.
The Role
We are looking for a Solicitor with at least five years of post-qualification experience to join our Trusts and Tax team to administer a portfolio of trusts for our longstanding clients. You will work collaboratively with our Private Client lawyers and Ashtons Legal Trust Corporation directors.
Whilst not an exhaustive list, you can expect to be involved in and responsible for:
- Administering a portfolio of trusts on behalf of new and longstanding clients including annual accounts and tax returns
- Legal drafting of documents in relation to: retirement and appointments of Trustees; advances to beneficiaries; winding up of trusts
- Preparation and submission of the annual declarations on the Trust Registration Service
- Preparation and submission of FATCA and CRS returns, where necessary
- Hosting the annual Trustees Meeting to review the trust investments with the IFA and Trustees
- Preparation of the inheritance tax forms and calculations for all Relevant Property Trusts
- Undertaking the day-to-day administration of the trusts to include talking to beneficiaries and handling their requests for financial support.
Knowledge, skills and experience required
Ideally you will have the following skills and experience:
- At least five years of post-qualification experience in administering Trusts
- A basic understanding of Personal Tax Returns
- Inheritance tax, capital gains tax and CGT 60-day knowledge
- Ideally you will be STEP qualified, but not essential
- Experience of preparing trust accounts and tax returns.
- Experience of dealing with professional intermediaries, trustees and beneficiaries
- Clear understanding of the compliance requirements for trusts
- Experience of liaising with HMRC as required, on behalf of trustees and beneficiaries
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to explain complicated legal processes in a clear way to your clients
- Strong relationship building experience in order to build and maintain relationships with trustees and beneficiaries
- Experience of training, development and mentoring of junior team members
- Willingness to attend business development activities on behalf of the team and the firm
This is a hybrid position, but we would like you to be able to attend our Bury St Edmunds office twice a week to work with the rest of the Trusts and Tax team.
