Our client is an IT solutions enterprise who are a global leader in transforming and operating mission-critical IT systems. You will be a key member of DXC's 24/7 operations team and play a vital role in supporting and optimising mission-critical systems. Based in Erskine or Newcastle, with a salary ranging up to £75,000 inc. shift allowance plus pension, flexi-benefits fund and £10,000 bonus following security clearance.
As a valued member of the 24/7 team, the Unix/Solaris Infrastructure Engineer will provide advanced technical expertise on Solaris/AIX Servers during out-of-hours operations, ensuring high-level support service. This role is pivotal in contributing to team growth, optimising processes for efficiency, and enhancing customer satisfaction. The position involves troubleshooting, monitoring, and improving solutions, with a focus on maintaining SLAs and KPIs. Due to customer requirements, successful applicants must be eligible for SC-level UK Security Clearance. If you are a strong Unix or Linux Engineer, you can be trained into Solaris technology.
Key Responsibilities:- Deliver exceptional customer service, acting as a focal point during emergency support hours (24/7).
- Support disaster recovery tests across multiple virtual platforms.
- Address security vulnerabilities identified by the compliance team.
- Perform scheduled change work outside of regular hours.
- Assist in the setup, configuration, and support of Linux and Windows servers.
- Innovate and contribute to the development of new and improved products.
- Expand expertise in a diverse suite of technologies.
- Provide technical support for infrastructure services, responding to issues and assisting with tasks.
- Contribute to infrastructure projects and assignments.
- Monitor and troubleshoot infrastructure systems to ensure reliability and performance.
- Collaborate with the team to enhance infrastructure effectiveness and resolve technical challenges.
- Support the development of infrastructure documentation, including incident logs and configuration records.
- Apply technical knowledge to address infrastructure-related challenges.
- Follow best practices and standards in infrastructure service delivery.
- Utilise technical skills to resolve infrastructure issues and incidents.
- Knowledge and hands-on Engineering experience with Unix / Linux / IBM AIX systems.
- Minimum 2 years of relevant work experience.
- Proven experience in infrastructure technology analysis.
- Proficiency in data analysis.
- Hands-on experience with Solaris (Preferred).
- Bachelors degree or equivalent in relevant field (Preferred).
- Must be a British National.
This role operates on a 4-on/4-off rotating shift pattern, meaning you'll work four consecutive days followed by four consecutive days off. Based on-site in either Erskine and Newcastle.
Benefits:- Basic salary £50,000 to £55,000.
- 35% shift allowance in addition to salary.
- 25 days annual leave plus 8 public holidays.
