Legal.io is working with a leading technology & gaming company who is seeking a Privacy Counsel for a 12 month parental leave coverage. This contractor will work closely with UK and Stockholm based Privacy Counsels, as well as the broader Privacy Team. This is hybrid position which requires 2 days / week at the Guildford, UK – or Stockholm, Sweden office.
Scope of Work
Title: Privacy Counsel

Hours: 40 Hours / Week
Duration: 12 months commitment
Start Date: February 2025
Hourly Rate : $90 – $115 / hour
Job Responsibilities:
- Work with Privacy Team to develop, implement, and update a globally comprehensive privacy program, focused on assessing risks, designing and updating controls, monitoring and evidencing compliance, and evolving the program over time;
- Assist with Data Privacy Rights response processes (e.g. requests for access or deletion);
- Assist with Data Mapping, DPIAs, and Data Protection Regulator enquiries;
- Support the on-going development of internal policies and guidance for privacy and data governance practices;
- Provide legal advice and day-to-day support to cross-functional groups responsible for auditor, regulator, and third-party relationships;
- Help with the management and implementation of internal tools and third-party certifications to support cookie compliance, PIA/DPIA, and data mapping programs;
- Perform legal research and provide practical advice on emerging global privacy regulations, including providing expertise to the policy and government relations team;
- Monitor organizational processes, internal controls and perform analysis to measure program effectiveness and compliance; complete appropriate documentation; and
- Help advise game, studio, or central engineering teams to ensure privacy-by-design is embedded in our products and solutions. This includes support of game development and deployment, marketing/ad-tech, central back-end databases, marketplace/commerce tools, in-game social and communication tools, and cloud gaming.
Required skills and experience:
- UK, EU or Common Law qualified lawyer and 4+ years’ relevant privacy experience, with a preference for European Economic Area-focused experience;
- Experience with consumer privacy, data practices, and information governance, as well as digital product-to-market in the consumer technology or entertainment industries;
- Technology contracting experience, including Data Processing Agreements;
- Demonstrated ability to work independently on diverse matters, successfully lead cross-functional projects, and comfortable finding creative and practical solutions;
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, impeccable integrity, good judgment, strong analytical skills, and a keen sense of humor;
- Collaborative by nature and able to build strong partnerships;
- Comfortable in a fast-paced environment and ability to manage a diverse and complex workload;
- CIPP, CIPP-E, a plus
- Background in computer science or other similarly related technical related field, a plus
