The purpose of the Fraud Prevention and Engagement Volunteer is to provide protective messaging to victims of fraud (individuals and businesses) who have reported their crime to Action Fraud and have not received a police response, including vulnerable victims. This role involves partaking in fraud prevention activities and delivering advice within the community, working alongside and supporting Neighbourhood Policing Teams and partners at events and engagement stands.

From your first day with us you will be part of a policing family making a real difference. It is our mission to identify and protect vulnerable people, prevent and respond to harm and keep people safe. In this role you will be:

  • Attending engagement events and engaging with the public to provide advice on fraud types and prevention.
  • Working with Neighbourhood Policing teams and the wider police family and partners to identify locations and events to attend.
  • Seeking and collating feedback from those events to inform future activities.
  • Contacting fraud victims via post/email.
  • Ensuring victims are provided with crime prevention packages relevant to their specific needs.
  • Reviewing and categorising victim data held on Excel spreadsheets.

This volunteering role is available at the following hubs, please indicate on your application form which hub you would be interested in volunteering at:

  • West Sussex: Horsham, Worthing, Mid Sussex, Haywards Heath, Bognor
  • East Sussex: Lewes, Hailsham, Hastings, Eastbourne, Brighton

Skills & Experience

  • Professionalism, confidence and the ability to engage with members of the public whilst representing Sussex Police in the public domain.
  • Be approachable, confident and have the ability to retain and deliver information accurately.
  • Experience of dealing with members of the public and providing a high level of customer service.
  • The ability to demonstrate a high level of oral and written communication skills.
  • The ability to maintain records and documentation efficiently.
  • IT skills including familiarity with Microsoft Excel and Outlook.
  • The ability to work without direct supervision and demonstrate a high level of self-management, motivation, drive and determination.
  • Previous experience of volunteering and/or working within a police environment or having knowledge of key fraud types and prevention advice would be advantageous but not essential.
