Want to have more meaning in your life? Do you want to do something that is satisfying and of great service to your community? Then become a Hospital Volunteer. As a Hospital Volunteer you will be providing a friendly and helpful welcome to patients, families and visitors to Bolton Hospital. Volunteers are needed to provide a valuable resource, which enhances patient care by giving practical help and support to patients and staff, but does not replace the work of staff. The only qualification required is your desire to help someone in need and have a professional friendly attitude. All prospective volunteers must complete their learning journey before you start volunteering by undertaking the National Volunteer Certificate which underpins the Induction you will do as a volunteer.
Main duties of the job:
- Meet and greet patients, relatives and visitors at our Main Reception and our Outpatients department at the hospital.
- Provide a friendly and polite welcome to the hospital.
- Direct or accompany patients, families and visitors to their appropriate destination.
- Help on our wards make and serve drinks. Lay tables, set up trolleys, serve meals, assist with hand washing before meals. Help to make up empty beds.
- Engage with patients by talking with them or helping with an activity, such as reading or playing games.
- Be our meet and greet on pharmacy reception, taking in hospital prescriptions.
- Communicate with other members of the pharmacy team.
- Answer telephones in the dispensary and direct calls to relevant staff.
- Fill bottles, boxes and other sundries that are used in the dispensing process.
