We are currently recruiting for an Associate Building Surveyor role with a leading consultancy known for delivering high-quality work across a variety of sectors. This opportunity is ideal for someone looking to take the next step in their career-leading teams, managing projects, and playing a key role in strategic business growth.

As an Associate Building Surveyor, you will be responsible for overseeing project delivery within agreed budgets and timelines, ensuring a consistently high technical standard. You will manage and mentor a team, work closely with clients and consultants, and play an active part in business development and company strategy implementation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage a team to meet project and business objectives
  • Prepare and negotiate fee proposals and schedules of service
  • Monitor workloads and coordinate resources effectively
  • Ensure all technical output-drawings, reports, specifications-is of high quality and complies with project requirements
  • Provide mentorship and conduct appraisals for junior staff
  • Act as a key point of contact with clients and design teams
  • Maintain financial oversight of projects, including invoicing and reporting
  • Contribute to business development efforts and help grow client relationships
  • Support recruitment and staff development where required
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards, procedures, and ISO 19650 processes
  • Lead or contribute to the development and delivery of best practice initiatives
Key Skills & Experience
  • Essential: Chartered status (MRICS or FRICS) or equivalent experience in a senior role
  • Demonstrable leadership and team management experience
  • Strong technical knowledge in surveying, building pathology, and construction
  • Skilled in mentoring, delegating, and supervising
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and report writing skills
  • Proactive, organised, and committed to continuous improvement
  • Experienced with ISO 19650 processes and standards
  • Desirable: Familiar with financial reporting systems
  • Experience acting as expert witness
Technical Competencies
  • In-depth knowledge of traditional and modern construction methods
  • Experience across both refurbishment and new build projects
  • Strong understanding of building regulations, CDM, JCT contracts, and party wall matters
  • Skilled in preparing specifications, schedules, and technical reports
  • Confident in delivering building surveys on varied property types
  • Ability to appraise construction solutions and manage risk
