Our client is a leading engineering and project services company who provide bespoke solutions across a number of marine related sectors. Due to growth they now require a Trade Compliance Coordinator to join their busy North East facility to provide support to the business on all import and export control related operational activities.
The Role
- This role is vital in ensuring the smooth and compliant movement of goods in and out of the UK, Ireland, and EU.
- Support the Business Development team by undertaking and recording screenings/background checks for due diligence as required to ensure compliance of potential customers.
- Work with relevant departments across the business to support commodity code classification from the UK tariff.
- Understand customs procedures and be able to support the business in ensuring the correct process is used and complied with.
- Support the preparation of shipping documentation and keeping up to date with country requirements.
- Use relevant government systems to submit export license applications.
- Generation of customs clearance instructions for import and export consignments.
- Ensure support documentation is obtained and filed in compliance with regulations for proof of export and as required for imports.
- Work with the Logistics team to support with any customs or export control issues during the shipment process to ensure customer satisfaction.
- Maintain and update relevant databases, ensuring all records are accurate and current.
- Support Trade Compliance Officer with the establishment of sanctions and export controls compliance program.
The Person
- Working knowledge of the UK customs Tariff and rules of origin.
- Experience of and/or training in UK (and EU/US) sanctions and export controls.
- Experience in the use of licence application system and some prior use of screening tools.
- Strong understanding of post-Brexit trading landscape.
- Technical product/industry knowledge, preferably of maritime/offshore products and technology, in combination with export compliance experience.
- Strong IT Skills and proficient in the use of Microsoft Office (particularly Excel, Word).
- Proactive/able to work on own initiative effectively with structure and hands-on mindset.
- Professional approach with the ability to build relationships.
- Good interpersonal skills (team player and approachable).
- Able to adapt to changing priorities with strong organisational and time management skills and ability to manage towards tight deadlines.
- Understanding of the importance of confidentiality and compliance with current legislation.
- Degree (law, science, engineering, technology) or comparable work experience.
