Do you want to help power your career and be part of an evolving energy industry? An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic Dispatch Engineer to join our Field Operations Team. The energy industry is advancing with investment in smart technology innovation. Northern Powergrid, as the company responsible for powering everyday life for 8 million customers across 3.9 million homes and businesses in the Northeast, Yorkshire and North Lincolnshire, is at the forefront of delivering a power network that meets the region’s needs, now and in the future.

A Dispatch Engineer is responsible for the technical and strategic management of all Low Voltage (LV) and unconfirmed High Voltage (HV) incidents via the allocation of industrial and technical resource for all restoration and repairs activities across the Northeast Area. In doing so, the Dispatch Engineer will be required to meet customer service, safety and financial expectations for the delivery of an efficient, effective and responsive incident life cycle management process and subsequent fault report.

With a competitive salary between £39,937 - £53,711 (Tech Level A pp 7-13) plus shift allowance of 27%. This role requires 24-7, 365-day cover as part of a 3-part shift.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Efficiently and effectively dispatch LV and unconfirmed HV fault activity to the most appropriate resource
  • Provide up to date, comprehensive, accurate and timely updates on the Outage Management System (OMS)
  • Manage the operational activity of allocated Rapid Response Engineers and Major Repair Teams within region: both in hours and out of hours to ensure all associated performance standards are met.
  • Monitor fault restoration performance to ensure there are no standards performance failures
  • Produce applicable incident report results from associated events on the network encountered from LV fault response activities
  • Produce accurate fault reports that meet audit requirements
  • Maintain a close working relationship with other business sections, specifically within HV control, as well as within each region, fully utilising appropriate information systems
  • Fully utilise the Outage Management System (OMS)
  • Fully utilise Northern Powergrid’s asset database and records system
  • Demonstrate a full operational knowledge of the LV distribution network to aid restoration and repair work
  • Demonstrate full knowledge of current repairs and safety policies
  • Demonstrate basic operational knowledge of the HV system
  • Able to accurately recognise all faults on the LV network
  • Utilise an in-depth knowledge of statutory requirements and service standards applicable to the LV network to uphold regulatory integrity and provide 10/10 customer service
  • Demonstrate a detailed knowledge of the contact centre call-handling process, including fault progression and management activities
Key Competencies:
  • Ability to safely manage the LV Fault Restoration Strategy, undertaking network restore and operational response activities
  • Be receptive to change and have the ability to motivate oneself and other team members to improve working methods with a view to bettering fault performance and subsequent repair costs
  • Competent in monitoring progress and implementing controls to ensure fault activities are progressed in a timely and proactive basis. Ensuring such is achieved to time, cost and quality in order to support the wider organisational operating platform
  • Ability to handle engaging and positive pressure, through effectively prioritising fault response workload, resource schedules and conflicting situations both operational and safety related
  • Knowledge of repairs processes relating to incident reporting, specifically dangerous incidents and neutral faults processes
  • To be able to interface with both internal and external customers, establishing effective and resilient relationship at all levels
Essential Qualifications and Experience:
  • Level 3 equivalent electrical qualification
  • A good level of IT skills as well as knowledge of the Microsoft Office basic applications (Outlook, Word, Excel)
  • Previous experience with LV distribution networks
  • Ability to prioritise workload when demands are conflicting
  • Willingness to work within a 24/7/365 shift formation
  • Be receptive, embrace change and strive for continuous improvement
  • A shared and committed approach to teamwork
  • Must be able to work well as an individual and within a team
Desirable Qualifications and Experience:
  • HNC or Equivalent in an electrical discipline
  • LV authorised
  • Previous experience of an operational role and / or have experience with Northern Powergrid’s LV network (eg Rapid Response / Jointer / Linesman)
  • Basic working level of understanding of Power on Fusion OMS (Outage Management System)
