My client, a respected engineering consultancy operating in the oil and gas sector, is currently seeking an experienced Electrical Commissioning Engineer for a long-term contract role based in the North East of England. This position is anticipated to be outside IR35, offering a great opportunity for an established contractor looking for stable project work over the next 12 months and beyond.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and execute electrical commissioning activities on major oil & gas projects, ensuring systems are safe, compliant, and ready for operation.
  • Supervise installation verification, functional testing, loop checking, and energisation of electrical systems including HV/LV switchgear, transformers, motors, and distribution panels.
  • Ensure commissioning work is carried out in accordance with industry standards, site procedures, and HSE regulations.
  • Liaise with project teams, vendors, and subcontractors to resolve technical issues during commissioning phases.
  • Prepare and maintain commissioning documentation, test records, and progress reports.

Key Requirements:

  • Proven experience as an Electrical Commissioning Engineer within oil & gas, petrochemical, or heavy industrial sectors.
  • Strong working knowledge of electrical systems, safety procedures, and regulatory compliance.
  • Familiarity with hazardous area equipment and ATEX standards.
  • Recognised electrical engineering qualification (HNC/HND/Degree or equivalent).
  • CompEx or similar certification is advantageous.

Location: North East England

Contract Length: 12 months

Rate: Competitive, outside IR35
