The Role: We are seeking a hands-on Head of Engineering to lead our technical strategy, drive innovation, and build a world-class engineering team. This role will be responsible for overseeing the development of our core platform, ensuring scalability, security, and performance, while establishing the groundwork for future Software Engineers to build on. You will work closely with the Head of Product, Head of Operations and CEO to align engineering initiatives with business goals while fostering a culture of technical excellence and collaboration. You have a strong foundation in software development, experience leading teams, and a passion for building scalable, high-quality applications. You excel at architectural decision-making, mentoring engineers, and driving technical strategy in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Technical Leadership & Strategy: Define and execute the engineering roadmap in alignment with business objectives. Oversee the architecture and development of scalable systems, leveraging event-based architectures and cloud platforms. Stay ahead of emerging technologies and ensure the adoption of best practices across the engineering team.
- Team Leadership & Growth: Build, lead, and mentor a high-performing engineering team. Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous learning. Define hiring strategies and attract top engineering talent.
- Product Development & System Architecture: Work across the full stack, from building user interfaces to scalable backend services. Ensure high-quality software development through rigorous testing, code reviews, and performance monitoring. Drive pragmatic delivery through iterative development and testing with users.
- Technology & Systems Integration: Leverage modern technologies, including TypeScript, Node.js, React.js, Next.js, React Native, and Nest.js. Optimize cloud infrastructure using platforms like Vercel, Google Cloud, or AWS. Improve system scalability and performance through event-based architectures and geospatial indexing tools like Uber H3.
- Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement: Work closely with Product and Operations teams to align engineering efforts with business needs. Partner with external stakeholders, vendors, and customers to drive seamless integrations. Champion technical excellence across the company.
What We’re Looking For: Proven experience in a senior engineering leadership role, preferably in a high-growth startup. Strong expertise in TypeScript, Node.js, React.js, and backend architecture. Experience designing scalable, event-driven systems. Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail. Excellent communication and leadership abilities.
Bonus Points: Experience with logistics, geospatial tools (e.g., Uber H3), or real-time data processing. Familiarity with Inngest or similar workflow automation tools. Background in AI/ML applications for logistics optimisation.
