Location: Gosport Town Hall, PO12 1EB

Contract Type: Temporary (12 months)

Hours: Full-time - 37 hours per week (Monday to Friday, flexible working available)

Pay Rate: £27 - £29 per hour (depending on experience)

Driving Licence: Essential (Car user allowance applicable)

About the Role:

Portsmouth City Council is seeking a Building Surveyor (Gosport) to support ongoing asset management and responsive repair services across Gosport Borough Council's diverse property portfolio. This includes over 3,000 residential homes and a wide range of commercial and community assets. This is a critical frontline role focused on diagnosing, specifying, and managing day-to-day repairs, updating property stock data, and liaising with contractors to ensure safe, timely, and cost-effective maintenance delivery.

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Carry out responsive repair inspections and specify appropriate remedial works
  • Conduct stock condition and measured surveys, updating asset records
  • Apply technical building knowledge to diagnose faults and recommend solutions
  • Manage contractors, resolve disputes, and ensure works meet required standards
  • Ensure compliance with building regulations and health & safety legislation
  • Prepare estimates, control costs, and assess value for money
  • Use IT systems to record, report, and analyse repair data
  • Liaise with residents, clients, and stakeholders, keeping them informed throughout

Who We're Looking For:

  • Proven experience in housing or commercial building maintenance
  • HNC (or equivalent) in Building Surveying or a related discipline (preferred)
  • Sound knowledge of building construction, building pathology, and repair methods
  • Knowledge of key regulations, including Working at Height and Control of Asbestos
  • Strong analytical, planning, and problem-solving abilities
  • Competent IT skills across Microsoft Office and data management tools
  • Excellent communication skills with a customer-focused approach
  • Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle (essential)
