We are a healthcare technology company that puts patients and clinical safety first. The clinical team consists of senior doctors, nurses and advanced physiotherapists who have experience across the NHS and private healthcare in the UK and further afield. We are a supportive team and will help you develop your skills and experience in the fast-paced world of health technology. You will be placed at the centre of the organisation's strategic agenda, bringing together the clinical aspects of quality, safety, digital product development and technology. We’re looking for someone who knows about clinical governance, clinical quality and clinical improvement, can be credible with senior clinicians and can also link day to day quality work with strategic development. You’ll have worked in or be familiar with clinical governance processes and will understand how to produce, develop and use clinical information to ensure that a service is and can demonstrate that it is safe. Experience in all aspects of clinical governance is essential. Understanding of technology risk is preferred.

You will provide support to the medical team so that clinical safety and quality can be understood by all parts of the business. You’ll be comfortable in demonstrating that our services are safe to internal and external stakeholders. You’ll contribute to and develop change processes alongside product and technology teams.

The main roles are:

  • Provide leadership and help us to deliver clinical excellence by prioritising clinical quality - ensuring we have effective standards and processes backed up by a just culture.
  • Co-ordinate and deliver our clinical governance reporting schedule across NHS and Private pathways.
  • Relationship building with clinical leads and ensuring their ongoing engagement with clinical quality.
  • Management of clinical incidents and complaints including safeguarding incidents.
  • Engagement with all elements of the business including digital safety, product development, technology teams and operations supporting development of our products in line with clinical need and clinical priorities.

To be considered for the role you will require the following:

Essential Criteria;

EDUCATION, QUALIFICATION AND TRAINING

  • Educated to Degree level or equivalent
  • Registered with Nursing & Midwifery Council or Health and Care Professions Council.

EXPERIENCE

  • Clinical background or evidence of a clear understanding of how clinicians work.
  • Comprehensive understanding of national performance standards for quality and safety.
  • Evidence of managing and developing robust and effective clinical risk systems.
  • Understanding of clinical governance and quality improvement.
  • Management of quality assurance and/or regulatory compliance.
  • Experience of writing quality system policies and procedures.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

  • Ability to assess and interpret complicated and conflicting information and use judgement where appropriate.
  • Good organisational and time management skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills showing an ability to work with a wide range of professions.
  • Computer literate - Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc.).
  • Ability to analyse quality, incident and complaints data and identify trends for improvement.
  • Possess developed persuasive, motivational, negotiating, empathic skills.
  • Can confidently describe the difference between assurance and reassurance.
  • Knowledge of complaints / incidents / PSIRF.
  • Can describe and assign levels of clinical risk to incidents and help others to learn how to assign risk.
  • Can ensure complaint / incident responses are clear, written well and are understandable.
  • Willingness to undertake additional responsibilities to support the organisation as required.
  • Have a flexible approach and support some out of hours meetings.
  • Ability to collaborate constructively with internal and external partners to create the conditions for successful partnership.

Desirable;

EDUCATION, QUALIFICATION AND TRAINING

  • Masters level qualification.
  • Improvement science / risk management qualifications.

EXPERIENCE

  • Understanding of the patient pathway within the elective outpatient and surgical environment.
  • Has effectively embedded a culture of incident reporting in other organisations.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

  • Understanding of Digital Clinical Safety processes and standards.
  • Understand and describe how the Care Quality Commission functions and their expectation of us as a provider.

Within this position, you will mainly be:

  • Provide leadership and clinical excellence to ensure a high standard of clinical governance, quality assurance and quality improvement.
  • Co-ordinate and support governance reporting ensuring clinicians understand reports and have information to comment on clinical and product safety.
  • Support in-house clinical leads and Deputy Chief Medical Officer (DCMO) in development of training functions, clinician development and digital safety.
  • Encourage clinicians to support our Research and Insights function.
  • Work with in-house clinical leads, DCMO and information teams to further develop clinical information and incident reporting.
  • Lead, develop and support product development where it is relevant to clinical quality.
  • Contribute and encourage clinical leads’ input when developing new service delivery including local engagement, governance and promotion of services.
  • Engage with operational teams to ensure clinical safety is prioritised.
  • Engage with the Company’s contact centre to identify clinical risks and help mitigate them.
  • Ensure that the organisation has and follows a strong clinical governance framework that facilitates the delivery of high-quality care through efficient reporting and monitoring as well as adherence to policies.
  • Act as a role model for the clinical and management teams in all areas of clinical governance.
  • Draft, review and implement relevant policies across the portfolio to ensure they are up to date, fit for purpose and archived effectively.
  • Analyse and compose papers that examine patterns and developments related to patient safety, quality, and clinical governance throughout HBSUK’s range of services.
  • Provide each service with efficient, prompt, professional, high-quality support and direction regarding the reporting, investigation, and management of incidents and identified local risks.
  • Ensure that lessons learned are shared, recognised and applied to achieve the intended results.
  • Attend (and, if needed, chair) Clinical Governance meetings taking responsibility in conjunction with the Clinical Quality administrator for producing excellent agenda papers.
  • Provide cross cover and support as needed for other members of the Governance Team as necessary.
  • Benchmark performance against national and local standards and highlight areas for improvement.
  • Support the development and implementation of wider patient safety, quality, and clinical governance projects, including the concept of Continuous Improvement and Just Culture.
  • To lead the continued development of the evidence base for compliance with CQC registration.
  • To oversee, manage and promote the review of clinical audits in all specialties.
  • To conduct and oversee clinical deep dives into areas of concern regarding performance and quality in order to assist efforts aimed at improving services.
  • Establish and implement effective working relationships and communications with clinicians, operations teams, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Encourage learning and corrective actions to make sure they are carried out with the intended result, thus fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Perform additional tasks that are appropriate for the position's seniority and experience.

Training

  • Support training needs across the organisation in terms of identifying, managing and understanding clinical quality.
  • Develop an effective learning environment for all staff.

External Relationships

  • Be available to attend NHS site visits with the Sales and Ops Team when required.
  • Contribute to bids and sales work by describing safe and effective services.
  • Be available to clients for clinical safety and quality related queries.
