Job Description

Job Purpose

To support the General Manager in overseeing the day-to-day operations of the pub, dining, and accommodation areas, ensuring exceptional guest experiences, team leadership, and smooth operational delivery across all facets of the business

Key ResponsibilitiesOperations

  • Support the GM in running daily front-of-house and back-of-house operations.

  • Ensure the smooth coordination between the bar, kitchen, and rooms.

  • Open and close the venue as Duty Manager on a rota basis.

  • Maintain high standards of cleanliness, organisation, and safety across all areas.

Guest Experience

  • Deliver a warm, welcoming environment for all guestswhether dining, drinking, or staying overnight.

  • Deal promptly and professionally with guest enquiries, bookings, and complaints.

  • Ensure standards of service consistently exceed guest expectations.

People Management

  • Assist with recruitment, onboarding, and training of staff.

  • Lead by example, motivating and managing team performance on shift.

  • Support rotas, holiday planning, and shift coverage to ensure optimal staffing levels.

  • Help drive a positive and inclusive team culture.

Food & Beverage

  • Maintain quality and consistency in food and drink offerings in line with the company standards.

  • Assist in managing stock control, ordering, and supplier relationships.

  • Uphold licensing laws and health & safety, food hygiene, and allergen regulations.

Accommodation Oversight

  • Oversee room bookings and liaise with housekeeping to ensure rooms are guest-ready.

  • Support the maintenance of room standards and guest amenities.

  • Respond to guest feedback and ensure issues are resolved promptly.

Finance & Profitability

  • Assist in achieving financial targets including sales, margins, and cost control.

  • Support cashing up, end-of-day procedures, and banking.

  • Contribute ideas to drive revenue across food, drink, and rooms.

Marketing & Promotion

  • Help promote offers, events, and experiences in line with the pubs brand.

  • Engage with guests and support the use of social media and review platforms.

Person SpecificationEssential

  • Experience in a supervisory or assistant management role in a similar hospitality setting.

  • Strong knowledge of food and drink service.

  • Confident in team leadership and delivering excellent customer service.

  • Hands-on approach with a can-do attitude.

  • Good organisational and problem-solving skills.

  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and public holidays.

Desirable

  • Knowledge of room operations and hospitality software (e.g., booking systems).

  • Personal Licence holder or willingness to obtain.

  • First Aid trained.
