A market-leading engineering business is currently experiencing sustained growth and is looking to strengthen its team with the appointment of a Controls Engineering Manager. This opportunity offers the chance to play a key leadership role within the business and influence both the strategy and execution of advanced control systems across a diverse portfolio of bespoke machinery and automation solutions.
This is a senior-level and hands-on leadership position, reporting directly to the Operations Director. The Controls Engineering Manager will be responsible for leading a multi-disciplinary team of Electrical Project Engineers, Software Engineers, and Technicians, with full accountability for the delivery, standardisation, and continuous improvement of electrical control systems across all engineering projects.
Key Responsibilities:- Lead and manage the Controls Engineering team to deliver high-quality electrical and software solutions across all projects.
- Collaborate with senior leadership on resource allocation, recruitment, strategic planning, and technical direction.
- Standardise design methodologies and control system practices to improve consistency, speed, and maintainability across products.
- Champion the use of common design approaches, tools, and components to streamline development and reduce reliance on individual engineers.
- Provide technical leadership and hands-on support for problem-solving within project teams.
- Oversee and manage CE marking procedures, including risk assessment, EMC compliance, and safety documentation.
- Take on Project Manager responsibilities for selected projects and actively contribute as a Project Engineer when required.
- Proven experience in a senior Controls or Automation Engineering role.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and manage multidisciplinary teams.
- Deep knowledge of electrical and control systems, ideally including PLCs, HMI, and motion control.
- Familiarity with CE marking and compliance standards.
