About Us

We are Ofwat, the Water Services Regulation Authority, a non-ministerial government department responsible for regulating the water sector in England and Wales. Our work has genuine significance – no other organisation does the work we do. It’s unique and meaningful: keeping our water flowing; ensuring water bills don’t cost a penny more than needed; holding water companies to account. Come and work at the source of everyday life.

The Role

In this role you will work closely with colleagues within the directorate and across Ofwat, identifying areas where analysis and insight is needed, developing approaches to extract insights, understanding the application of that insight to the sector and communicating your findings, influencing how we deliver our strategic goals. A key aspect of the team's work is the publication of our annual Water Company Performance Report (WCPR). This role will interact with and influence the WCPR through the performance insight the team generates and evaluates. The team is also a key part in the implementation of our Turnaround Oversight Regime (PR24 final determinations) and how we monitor and hold companies to account for poor performance.

You will be comfortable adapting to different working styles, working collaboratively across teams and disciplines. Building trusted and collaborative relationships will be essential to success. The role also requires a high level of analytical competency; problem-solving skills; excellent written and oral communication skills; and a track record of delivering against challenging deadlines.

About You

  • Experience of using data, both quantitative and qualitative to draw out key actionable insights and present conclusions.
  • Relevant water sector experience including a background in one of the following areas: operations, asset management, engineering, scientific, technical, regulation, economics etc.
  • Experience of effectively planning and managing projects under challenging circumstances with a proven record of delivering clear insight, options and recommendations from complex data.
  • Experience of working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams (including with external organisations).
  • Good written and oral communication skills, with the ability to interpret and communicate complex information for a range of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Experience of, or a willingness to learn, modern programming languages (R/Python) and statistical analysis.
  • Ability to use your understanding of the sector to effectively challenge company and sector performance across a range of themes and focus areas.
  • Ability to manage and take responsibility for your own workloads, and manage multiple priorities to meet deadlines - including an ability to work independently, and as part of a team, using creativity and innovative approaches.

Why You Should Join Us:

  • Meaningful Impact: You will be joining a team with a sense of mission at its core aiming to build a lasting legacy for future generations by securing our long-term water resilience.
  • Innovative Work Environment: We embrace agile and new ways of working and have a culture built on trust, flexibility, and collaboration.
  • Development Opportunities: Gain valuable experience and develop your skills in a supportive and dynamic setting.
  • Work-Life Balance: Enjoy the flexibility of working from home combined with the benefits of in-person collaboration in our London or Birmingham offices.
  • Fantastic employer pension contribution of nearly 30%.
  • 25 days’ annual leave, increasing to 30 with each year of service, plus bank holidays and an extra 2.5 days of privilege leave.
  • Access to exclusive discounts on a variety of goods and services, including retail outlets, theatre tickets, holidays, insurance, and a gym membership.
  • Fees paid for membership of relevant professional bodies.
  • Up to 3 volunteering days per year.
  • Recognition vouchers scheme rewarding your hard work.
  • Generous shared parental leave and pay supporting your family life.

Closing date: 23.55 on 22 June 2025.
