Fire Safety Subject Matter Expert - Principle Fire Safety Consultant
Are you a seasoned fire safety professional looking to make a real impact? We're seeking a dedicated Fire Safety Subject Matter Expert to lead on fire risk assessments (FRAs) and provide expert guidance across a key client contract.
About the Role
As a trusted Principle Fire Advisor you will act as the primary point of contact for fire safety matters, specialising in fire compartmentation, fire engineering services, and assessments of both design and existing installations. You will support investigations, liaise with enforcing authorities, and help shape the future strategy of the FRA business. This is a strategic, autonomous role where your expertise will build trust and strengthen relationships with our client, positioning you as the senior fire safety advisor within the project and across the Mitie business.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide technical support for FRAs conducted by in-house assessors, including follow-up remedial actions and fire safety queries.
- Offer professional advice, market insights, and technical expertise to the client.
- Analyse trends from FRAs to recommend medium- and long-term measures for reducing fire risk across client premises.
- Review construction project FRAs pre- and post-works, providing feedback to the client's project team.
- Assist with investigations following fire incidents.
- Support the client in liaising with enforcement bodies and other stakeholders.
- Attend audits and inspections, providing relevant information and assisting during enforcement activities.
- Participate in management and progress meetings with the client and supply chain partners.
- Contribute to regular fire safety reviews and meetings to address ongoing risks and compliance.
What We're Looking For
- Extensive technical knowledge and proven experience in fire safety and risk assessment.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Strong experience consulting with stakeholders and Fire Risk Assessors.
- Strong team player with the ability to work independently.
- Full UK driving licence is essential.
- Must have Registration with MIET or the ability to obtain membership.
- Strong proven track record experience in consultancy fire safety, risk assessment, or related fields.
- Membership of a professional body such as the Institute of Fire Engineers (IFE) is desirable.
- Have knowledge and understanding of and ability to apply key fire safety documentation, including: Approved Document B (Volumes 1 & 2), Building Regulations, BS 9999 standards, Core fire safety principles and fire engineering practices.
