We're looking for a Registered Qualified BSL Interpreter (NRCPD/RBSLI registered) to join our specialist team at All Saints Hospital in Oldham, Greater Manchester. At All Saints Hospital, inclusive care is not just a principle—it’s our practice.

As a BSL Interpreter, you will play a crucial role in supporting Deaf staff and service users with complex linguistic and communication needs, to access vital Mental Health interventions, therapy and training. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Interpreting in Mental Health settings with professionalism and empathy

As a British Sign Language Interpreter, you will be:

  • Able to Interpret spoken English into British Sign Language (BSL) and vice versa during Mental Health therapy sessions, assessments, meetings, training and crisis interventions
  • Able to convey complex, sensitive, and often emotional content accurately and with cultural competence
  • Preparing assignments by reviewing case information where appropriate and liaising with clinicians
  • Able to maintain impartiality and uphold professional boundaries in emotionally charged or distressing scenarios
  • Supporting Mental Health professionals in delivering accessible and inclusive care to deaf service users
  • Maintaining accurate records of interpreting assignments in accordance with NHS or employer policies
  • Adhering to safeguarding, confidentiality, and data protection guidelines at all times
  • Accountable for the provision of BSL interpreting translation at All Saints Hospital in collaboration with the team
  • Ensuring that provision is delivered to a suitable standard in accordance with NRCPD guidelines

Have experience in psychiatric or crisis care settings, and an understanding of Deaf culture is essential.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Level 6 qualification in BSL and relevant BSL/English interpreting translation course
  • Registered with NRCPD as a Registered Qualified Sign Language Interpreter (a minimum 2-year post qualification)
  • Experience interpreting in healthcare or Mental Health settings
  • A strong understanding of Mental Health terminology, practices, and patient confidentiality
  • The ability to handle emotionally sensitive material and remain composed under pressure
  • Commitment to equality, diversity, and inclusive practice
  • Prior experience in psychiatric, counselling, or crisis care environments
  • Knowledge of Deaf culture and experience working with Deaf individuals with additional needs
  • Familiarity with NHS systems or working within multidisciplinary care teams (D)
  • Flexibility in that may be required to work some evenings and weekends (D)

Where you will be working:

Location: Grange Avenue, Oldham, Greater Manchester, OL8 4EF. You will be working alongside the multidisciplinary team at All Saints Hospital, providing care for people who are deaf or have complex communication needs. It is a culturally sensitive service which has been created to provide support and rehabilitation with care and intervention from both deaf and hearing members of staff.

All Saints Hospital is a specialist Mental Health service which has self-contained flats for deaf men over 18 years old, which helps them move along their care pathway to more independent living.
