Join Gresham House in Staplehurst as a Support Worker and provide care for people with severe learning disabilities, Autism and behaviours that may be seen as challenging; where you'll support and encourage them to lead a full and valued life, enabling them to live more independently.

You’ll be great with people - a real 'people person', able to communicate effectively - explaining yourself clearly in the right tone to suit the situation and be really good at understanding others (behaviours and expressions, as well as vocal). Having a good sense of humour and resilience, and a willingness to help residents with their personal hygiene are also important.

What you will be doing:

  • You will join an inclusive, supportive team that works well together to provide care to people with learning disabilities and mental health conditions.
  • Whether you have experience as a Care Assistant or Support Worker, you will use your knowledge and skills to help support people lead a valued and fulfilled life.
  • It can be quite a challenging environment at times, so a positive attitude, compassion, resilience and vigilance are important.
  • Working alongside a multidisciplinary team, you will use your excellent communication skills and experience as a Support Worker with a background in Learning Disabilities & Autism to provide care and support people through their care pathway.

Our rota includes weekdays and weekend shifts 7am - 2.30pm, and 2pm - 9.30pm to ensure a well-balanced team effort. This is a permanent, 35 contracted hours, full-time vacancy.

Where you will be working:

Location: Gresham House, Station Road, Staplehurst, Kent, TN12 0PZ. Gresham House are specialists in working with epilepsy and complex needs. The service is staffed 24 hours a day by a dedicated team of Support Workers, led by an experienced Registered Manager. The aim of the service is to encourage individuals to lead a full and valued life, enabling them to live more independently through a programme of active community engagement, developing meaningful social networks and developing robust coping strategies.

The home has twelve full en-suite bedrooms, a quiet room, double lounge with direct access to a large garden, which also contains a summer house/sensory room. It is located in the village of Staplehurst, in Kent, which is ten miles south of Maidstone. Staplehurst has a fast train service to London and there are good train and road links across the south.

In this role you will:

  • This role is available only for a female support worker to assist the female residents in the most efficient manner, including personal hygiene.
  • Have strong empathy and a caring and compassionate nature.
  • Be willing to support residents with personal hygiene.
  • Ideally be a driver with a manual UK driver's license held for at least 3 years (to assist with community visits and activities).
  • Have excellent people and communication skills, and a good sense of humour.
  • Deal with challenging behaviours.
  • Have a positive and professional approach.
  • Be reliable, flexible, hard-working and honest.
  • Be local or within commutable distance.

You must live in the UK and have the Right to Work in the UK full time. 20-hour Student and Skilled Worker Visas cannot be accepted.
