We are seeking a Neurology Consultant with experience in Rehabilitation Medicine to join our multidisciplinary team in the Rehabilitation Unit at CCL. Working closely with the Clinical Lead Consultant for Rehabilitation, the successful candidate will provide dedicated specialist medical input for patients undergoing rehabilitation following brain injury, illness, or surgery, with the goal of optimizing function, independence, and quality of life. This role requires strong clinical expertise in neurology with a special interest in neurorehabilitation and complex disability management.
The post will include 2 outpatient clinics weekly (4 hours each) to include neurology and with the option to develop one clinic into a specialist clinic such as complex disability management.
Job Responsibilities:
- Conduct comprehensive assessments and develop individualized rehabilitation plans for patients.
- Provide medical oversight and leadership within the rehabilitation team, working alongside physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech and language therapists, psychologists, resident doctors and nursing staff.
- Manage and coordinate the medical aspects of patient care in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
- In consultation with Clinical Lead and lead clinicians on the Rehabilitation Unit, monitor progress, adjust treatment plans, and ensure timely communication with patients, families, and referring physicians.
- Participate in case conferences, multidisciplinary rounds, and team meetings.
- Work with Clinical Lead consultant to contribute to the development of clinical protocols, quality improvement initiatives.
- Offer training and mentorship to junior medical staff/fellows.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory and ethical standards in medical rehabilitation care.
- Develop research programmes focusing on innovation including the adoption and trialling of new technologies and development of outcomes measurement tools, working with research leads and PhD fellows based at CCL and Kings/LIHE.
- Play a leading role in the development of new services in conjunction with Rehabilitation unit Clinical Lead Consultant and Neurology Department chair.
- Participate in continuous service improvement.
Requirements:
- Medical degree (MBBS or equivalent) with full licensure to practice and MRCP or equivalent.
- CCT (or equivalent) in Neurology at time of starting.
- Experience in a rehabilitation clinical setting focusing on neurorehabilitation.
- Strong diagnostic, clinical, and decision-making skills.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
- Commitment to patient-centered care and multidisciplinary collaboration.
- Research experience in Neurology or Rehabilitation Medicine; PhD desirable.
