Field Engineer – South Coast (Southampton & Portsmouth)

I'm currently working with a growing tech services company that's expanding its field engineering team due to continued success and increased demand — particularly across the South Coast (Southampton, Portsmouth, and surrounding areas). This role is ideal for someone who thrives in the field, enjoys working across various sites, and has a solid mix of IT skills, cabling knowledge, and a fault-finding mindset.
The Day-to-Day
- You’ll be responsible for a broad range of site-based support, install, and maintenance work, including:
- CAT5/CAT6/CAT6A data cabling installs
- CCTV installations, maintenance, and support
- Wireless access point setups and swap-outs
- EPOS systems installations and troubleshooting
- Digital signage setups
- General IT-related fault-finding
What They’re Looking For
Must-haves:
- Strong general IT knowledge
- Experience with structured cabling/data networking
- Someone naturally curious with solid fault diagnosis skills
- Full UK Driving Licence
Nice-to-haves:
- Background in CCTV or EPOS systems
Key Role Details
- Field-based role: Primarily across the South Coast but may occasionally travel further
- On-site time typically 8–9 hours/day; travel time not included in paid hours
- Van & fuel card provided
- Engineers are typically achieving 45+ hours on-site to hit the £38k–£44k range
Salary & Benefits
- Base salary: £30k–32k
- Expected earnings: £38k-44k
- Overtime rates: Weekdays, evenings, and Saturdays – 1.5x, Sundays – 2x
- On-call weekend work rota: 1 in 4 weekends
