We are seeking a Solar Design Engineer to support the development and execution of utility-scale solar PV projects across the UK. You will be responsible for producing high-quality preliminary and detailed designs, system layouts, and technical documentation in coordination with internal and external stakeholders. This role is key in supporting project success from concept to construction.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Create and optimise preliminary and detailed designs for ground-mounted solar PV systems using AutoCAD, PVsyst, and Helioscope.
  • Conduct shading analysis, energy yield assessments, and performance ratio calculations.
  • Generate accurate single-line diagrams (SLDs), cable layouts, and equipment layouts.
  • Work closely with civil, electrical, and grid teams to ensure coordinated design packages.
  • Support grid connection design requirements, DNO/TNO submissions, and interface integration.
  • Collaborate with procurement and construction teams to align designs with equipment specifications and installation best practices.
  • Prepare technical documentation for tendering, permitting, and construction.
  • Participate in site visits, surveys, and stakeholder meetings as needed.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant standards (G99/G100, IEC, BS), solar technologies, and innovations.
  • Ensure accuracy, compliance, and version control of all design files and records.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Renewable Energy Engineering.
  • 5+ years of experience in solar PV system design, ideally at utility scale.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, PVsyst, and design tools such as Helioscope or SketchUp.
  • Understanding of UK DNO grid requirements and renewable energy planning.
  • Familiarity with industry standards, electrical regulations, and HSE considerations.
  • Strong attention to detail, quality, and technical documentation.
  • Ability to work independently and in coordination with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Right to work in the UK and willingness to travel to project sites occasionally.
  • A passion for sustainability and environmental solutions.
