DIRECTOR OF CREDIT RISK

A top FinTech in the UK that Harnham have been partnered with for a few years now are on the search for a Director for the credit risk function. This position is a great opportunity to join a fast paced business in a wide scoping role covering both strategy and credit modelling.

THE COMPANY

This FinTech focus in the unsecured lending space under a few different portfolios and brands. They are ready to drive forward the business and scale their lending moving forward which is why they need a Director to oversee the credit strategy and modelling teams.

THE ROLE

You can expect to be involved in the following day to day:

  • Cultivate and manage a high-achieving team by mentoring and supporting members in skill enhancement and career progression.
  • Oversee the creation and execution of credit policies and responsible lending strategies, ensuring they support business growth while adhering to regulatory standards.
  • Drive the development, deployment, and maintenance of sophisticated credit risk models, blending traditional methodologies with machine learning to refine underwriting, pricing, and portfolio management.
  • Monitor portfolio performance, identify risks and opportunities, and deliver actionable insights to improve credit policies and customer experiences.
  • Provide forward-thinking guidance on innovations in credit risk evaluation, emerging industry trends, and new data sources or products, identifying risks and opportunities for data-driven growth.
  • Develop and uphold governance frameworks to ensure alignment with regulatory standards and internal risk management protocols.
  • Work closely with teams across pricing, product development, operations, marketing, and engineering to implement data-driven solutions that balance growth with effective risk management.
  • Present strategic insights and recommendations to executives, board members, credit unions, and external stakeholders to achieve alignment on critical initiatives.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Experience working in consumer sub or near prime credit risk ideal
  • Experience in unsecured lending
  • Experience with both scorecards/credit modelling and credit strategy
