Senior Mechanical Engineer

Job: Senior Mechanical Engineer IR35: Outside Location: Reading (3 days remote/ 2 days on site) Industry: Nuclear Clearance required: Minimum SC Length: 9 months+   Overview: An opportunity has arisen for a Senior Mechanical Engineer with a strong structural and stress analysis background to support a secure engineering programme in the Reading area. The role involves a blend of hands-on mechanical calculations, structural reviews, and peer checking, with flexibility to work remotely most of the week. Key Responsibilities: Perform mechanical and structural calculations, including stress assessments and hand calculations for integrity and load path validation. Provide technical oversight by reviewing and checking the work of other engineers for compliance and accuracy. Contribute to design substantiation and documentation for high-integrity engineering components. Liaise with other engineering disciplines and report into senior technical management.Requirements: Active or dormant SC Clearance (Security Check), valid within the last 3–5 years. Strong mechanical engineering background with a structural and stress bias. Experience with hand calculations as well as tools like Mathcad and/or ANSYS. Confident in reviewing, validating, and checking technical work of peers. Previous work as a Senior Mechanical Engineer in the nuclear sector.
