A leading civil engineering organisation is seeking a confident and capable Health & Safety Manager to lead its Safety, Health, and Environmental (SHE) agenda. This is a pivotal, hands-on position where the successful candidate will play a key role in embedding a proactive, positive culture of safety and sustainability throughout the business.
The role offers the opportunity to move beyond compliance, shaping how SHE is integrated into every aspect of the organisation’s operations. Working closely with senior leadership, cross-functional teams, and external partners, the SHE Manager will ensure all legal, regulatory, and best practice standards are not only met but consistently exceeded.
Key Responsibilities- Maintain and enhance the SHE management system, ensuring documentation is compliant, accessible, and up to date.
- Provide expert guidance to senior leadership on SHE legislation, standards, and industry best practices.
- Lead active and reactive monitoring activities, including data analysis, trend identification, and implementation of corrective actions.
- Oversee audits, inspections, and investigations, ensuring all findings are actioned, tracked, and communicated effectively.
- Chair management review meetings focused on SHE performance, improvement opportunities, and strategic planning.
- Drive progress on environmental performance, including initiatives to reduce carbon emissions and improve sustainability.
- Support and manage the SHE team, fostering development through training, mentoring, and performance management.
- Respond to complex SHE queries and contribute to tenders, client audits, and certification requirements.
- Proven experience in a similar SHE or HSE leadership role.
- Strong knowledge of the CDM Regulations 2015, RIDDOR, and audit frameworks such as RISQS, UVDB, and Van Excellence.
- NEBOSH General Certificate (minimum).
- Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities while maintaining compliance.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, including report writing and training delivery.
- Proven ability to influence, coach, and lead others effectively.
- Demonstrated commitment to sustainability and environmental improvement.
- NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent Level 6 qualification.
- Membership of IOSH (TechIOSH or higher).
- Familiarity with ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 standards.
- Evidence of ongoing CPD in SHE or related disciplines.
