The school are driven to changing childrens lives for the better by providing best-in-class specialist services. Our schools currently support a number of vulnerable young people aged 8-18 years with SEMH.

We are looking for an experiencedScience or PE Teacherwho also has experience of supporting SEND and SEMH pupils.

Key Responsibilities for a SEN Teacher:

• To ensure safeguarding of all young people underpins every decision made.
• To plan, prepare and deliver high quality lessons, demonstrating outstanding teaching and learning
• To contribute to our culture of continual improvement and high standards in teaching through coaching, team-teaching, and demonstrating excellence
• To ensure effective pastoral care of all children in the school including
• behaviour management, child protection and safeguarding
• To ensure high standards of teaching and learning, with the ability to meet National Curriculum requirements
• To identify strategies to overcome individual pupils barriers to learning
• To carry out duties as identified in the Teacher Standards
• To meet all Teacher Standards
• To contribute to the Annual Review of EHCPs
• To write and implement Individual Learning Plans (ILPs)
• To attend PEP reviews, if necessary, and complete PEP documentation prior to and/or following a review, ensuring that targets are achieved and that the pupils voice is heard

Key skills and requirements for a SEN Teacher:

• Qualified Teacher Status
• Degree qualification
• An excellent class teacher
• Experience as a primary, secondary or SEND teacher

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

• Science and/or PE experience, ideally to secondary/GCSE level
• Expert understanding of innovative pedagogy
• Experience of assessment without levels including tracking pupil progress
• Knowledge and understanding of statutory assessment arrangements at KS2 and/or KS3 and KS4
• Knowledge and understanding of effective strategies to manage the behaviour of pupils
• Excellent knowledge of inclusion including SEMH, EAL, bilingual learners, minority ethnic
• achievement and equality (race, disability, and gender)
• Excellent understanding of safeguarding especially the safety and welfare of vulnerable and
• disadvantaged pupils
• Expert knowledge of strategies for closing the gap
• The ability and willingness to teach a range of subjects, from KS2 KS4 and post-16 as required.
• An understanding of a range of SEND needs, including: ASD, ADHD, Speech, Language and Communication needs, emotionally based school avoidance
• Contribution to the educational and social development of each young person
• The ability to form effective relationships with young people, their families (if appropriate) and external agencies
• To ensure that young peoples views and wishes are sought and acted upon where appropriate
• Ensure that appropriate resources and environment exist for individual pupils referred to the service, and that opportunity for inclusion are available to all our students
• To liaise with other teachers and teaching assistants in the team to ensure effective deployment of resources
