Role Overview
Are you passionate about database management and looking for an exciting opportunity in a dynamic global retail environment?
My client is seeking a skilled Database Administrator (DBA) to join their London tech team (this is a hybrid role). You will be responsible for managing and maintaining our database systems, ensuring optimal performance, security, and availability. You will collaborate closely with engineers, system administrators, and other key stakeholders to support critical data-driven projects.
Key Responsibilities Include:
Database Management & Performance Tuning
- Install, configure, and maintain database management systems (primarily SQL Server, with potential exposure to MySQL and PostgreSQL).
- Monitor and optimize database performance, including query tuning, indexing, and configuration adjustments.
SQL Replication, Backup & Recovery
- Manage SQL Replication processes, including selecting appropriate replication methods and maintaining them.
- Implement and manage backup and recovery strategies to ensure data integrity and system availability.
Data Migration
- Plan and execute data migrations, including upgrading DBMS versions and transferring data between systems.
SSRS & Analysis Services
- Maintain and administer SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) and, ideally, have knowledge of Analysis Services and Power BI.
Cloud Management
- Administer cloud databases (Azure SQL Database, Google Cloud SQL, Databricks) to ensure high availability and performance.
Documentation
- Maintain detailed documentation of database configurations, processes, and best practices.
Qualifications, Knowledge, and Experience
- Experience with SQL Server, Azure SQL Database, and Databricks.
- Strong understanding of database design and data modeling concepts.
- Familiarity with DevOps practices and database automation tools.
- Relevant certifications (e.g., Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate) are highly desirable.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across technical and non-technical teams.
- Ability to work independently and within a team in a fast-paced environment.
