They are looking to hire an experienced developer with a good understanding of the Life Sciences / pharmaceutical and biotech industry to join their team in a fully home-based role and develop software to support their lab and R&D efforts.

Your new role

  • Design and develop advanced software applications for laboratory and bioinformatics workflows, focusing on data management and analysis.
  • Maintain and enhance existing software systems, ensuring optimal performance and functionality to support ongoing drug discovery & development efforts.
  • Collaborate with scientists and lab personnel to automate lab processes, define system requirements, and gather user feedback for new features.
  • Implement and refine software life cycle processes, introducing improvements where necessary.
  • Scope, plan, and manage new projects, providing regular updates to management.
  • Utilise external consulting resources to support project goals where needed.
  • Work across the full software development life cycle (SDLC), from analysis and coding to testing and documentation.
  • Troubleshoot, debug, and upgrade existing systems to ensure reliability and efficiency.

What you'll need to succeed

  • A BSc or MSc (or equivalent experience) in Computer Science, Bioinformatics, or a related field, eg Biotechnology or Biology.
  • Strong hands-on experience as a Software Engineer or Developer, within the Life Sciences sector, eg for a pharmaceutical or biotech company, CRO or other R&D business.
  • Proficiency in multiple programming languages, including Python, Java, and JavaScript; knowledge of R would be an advantage.
  • Good knowledge of relational databases (SQL) and ORM technologies (eg JPA2, Hibernate).
  • Experience in developing web applications using frameworks such as React, Angular, Node.js, or Spring MVC.
  • Familiarity with the software design life cycle (SDLC) and test-driven development methodologies.
  • Good communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to a variety of stakeholders such as wet lab scientists.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, managing multiple tasks and priorities.
