Position: Contract

Location: Hybrid - London 2 days per week & Travel to multiple sites

Are you a Senior Project Manager with a background in Civil Engineering, a track record of delivering mega infrastructure projects, and the ability to oversee complex design delivery at scale? We are working in partnership with one of the UK’s largest and most ambitious infrastructure programmes - Sizewell C, the next generation of clean nuclear energy. This is a rare opportunity to take a pivotal leadership role in delivering a £400m design contract that will power 6 million homes and support Britain’s Net Zero goals.

Vacancy Overview

As Head of Design Contracts, you’ll sit above a group of Project Managers, owning the scope, budget, and programme delivery of all civil design contracts within the Civil Works Programme (CWP). This is not just about management - it’s about leading a high-performing team of up to 20 PMs, driving governance, commercial strategy, and technical excellence.

Primary Scope Focus

  • Lead the strategic delivery of civil engineering design contracts valued at £400m+
  • Manage and mentor a team of project managers delivering core civil and infrastructure designs (e.g. enabling works, nuclear island, marine structures, roads)
  • Ensure on-time, on-budget delivery aligned with programme milestones and technical requirements
  • Collaborate with commercial, engineering, PMO and risk teams across the UK and Europe
  • Lead interface management between the design supply chain and internal SZC stakeholders
  • Own the post-contract management of design packages using CEMAR (NEC experience ideal)
  • Embed best practice from mega-projects like HS2, Crossrail, or other complex D&B environments

Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications & Experience

  • Chartered Civil Engineer (CEng) with a degree in Civil Engineering or related
  • Minimum 15 years’ experience in civil infrastructure, including 10+ years at SPM level
  • Demonstrable experience client-side or within Tier 1 infrastructure delivery
  • Strong knowledge of design management, NEC contracts, change control & PMO frameworks
  • Project Management qualification (e.g. APM, PRINCE2, PMP)
  • Background in major capital projects such as HS2, Thames Tideway, or nuclear new build
  • Exceptional leadership, stakeholder engagement, and strategic programme oversight
