4basebio is an innovative gene synthesis company with the ambition to provide high quality, synthetic DNA for use in gene therapy and gene editing platforms. We are starting our DNA analytic facilities at our site in Cambridge, UK and are looking for dynamic and experienced team members to help us achieve our ambitions and goals. The role will focus on the development of new methods for the analysis of our novel, synthetic DNA products for customer and discovery projects. It will also focus on the development of analytical tools to characterise enzymes and other biomolecules that work as raw materials for DNA synthesis. The candidate will have the opportunity to interact with multi-disciplinary teams within the R&D department and expand their laboratory skill set.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, and validate analytical assays for enzyme characterisation, DNA, RNA, and other biomolecules.
  • Implement assays such as PCR, qPCR, ELISA, and gel electrophoresis to assess enzyme activity and molecular integrity.
  • Develop analytical methods and carry out laboratory analysis using a range of techniques including CGE and HPLC.
  • Work in collaboration with R&D for the development of new analytical methods for nucleic acids and proteins.
  • Ensure assays meet regulatory standards and are suitable for QC testing and product release.
  • Analyse and interpret experimental data; identify and solve experimental problems.
  • Use and maintain company equipment in accordance with the company’s SOPs and health & safety guidelines.
  • Keep up to date with relevant scientific and technical developments.
  • Establish and maintain a detailed record of all the experiments and results generated in the lab.

Person Specification:

  • MSc in biochemistry, chemistry, or related life science field or BSc in biological/chemical sciences, or a related discipline with relevant industry experience (2 Years).
  • Hands-on experience working in biology or chemistry labs.
  • Experience in analytical techniques for nucleic acids characterisation and quantification: Nanodrop, Qubit, AGE, CGE, sequencing.
  • Experience in analytical techniques for proteins characterisation and quantification: SDS-PAGE gels, silver staining, western blotting, plate-based assays (ELISA, enzymes activity assays, BCA).
  • Expertise handling LC systems.
  • Experience in tech transfer documentation generation.
  • Ability to test and troubleshoot new assays and techniques.
  • Excellent team working and communication skills.
  • Must have the right to work in the UK.
