Lead Engineer - Surface Design

Location: Silverstone, UK

We have an opportunity for a Lead Engineer - Surface Design to join the Team at the new Silverstone Facility. In this role you will lead a group of highly creative and skilled design engineers to deliver high quality surface geometry models to aid the aerodynamic development of the team’s race car. What you will be doing:

• Management and responsibility of the Surface Design Team.
• Lead the delivery of high quality and complex surface geometry models for CFD, Wind Tunnel and full-size release.
• Work closely with Aerodynamicists to understand the definition and scope of all new surfaces, including modelling and construction approach.
• Liaise with model designers to ensure efficient implementation of aerodynamic projects.
• Manage and organise the release of aero surface geometry to the full-size car design office.
• Liaise with full-size car designers to create high quality surface geometry for full-size release.
• Mentor junior members of the group and support pushing forward methodologies and modelling improvements.
• Implement and manage standard design practices, ensuring these are adhered to.
• Maintain any relevant surface modelling documentation.

Requirements:

• Multiple years’ relevant experience in a similar role within the motorsport industry.
• Extensive experience in with 3D CAD software (preferably 3DExperience/CATIA).
• Strong knowledge and understanding of surface quality, model layout and robustness.
• Possess a high level of understanding of surfacing and parametric modelling techniques.
• Demonstrate excellent interpersonal and leadership skills.
• Able to perform duties in a timely manner with minimal errors.
• Ability to line manage / lead teams effectively.
• Communicate effectively with key stakeholders/directors.
• Clear and concise communication.
• Strong levels of IT skills including MS Office, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
• Positively contribute to an open and inclusive culture.
