As the Regulatory Specialist, you will apply chemistry know-how, global chemicals management regulatory knowledge and project management in support of world-wide chemicals notification projects and the development of the Manchester office as a centre of excellence for global notification. In addition, providing support for the European Union & United Kingdom Chemical notification regulations will also be of importance when considering Clients global requirements.

Required skills and experience:

  • Educational background in Chemistry, Biochemistry or a related field.
  • Previous experience working with chemical regulations in industry or a consultancy environment, particularly of interest is experience of the global chemical notification regimes and chemicals hazard management / communication requirements.
  • Working knowledge of hazard classification and the toxicological & eco-toxicological properties of chemicals with respect to chemical safety.
  • Sound knowledge of organic chemistry, chemical structures and naming conventions.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal and communication (verbal, written, listening and presentation) skills in fast paced, dynamic and changing environment.
  • Successful track record undertaking business development activities from lead, to proposal, to contract.

About the opportunity:

The role of Regulatory Specialist is a client facing role. It entails managing business development leads, determination and planning of notification strategies, project cost planning, preparation of contracts, negotiation with Clients, data gap analysis, scoping of physico-chemical, toxicological and eco-toxicological tests/studies, notification dossier preparation, classification and general regulatory compliance consulting for Client services. It requires liaising closely with Intertek Assuris global colleagues to provide the local Country support and to facilitate Client's expectations. The role also requires coaching and supervision of the activities of more junior team members as delegated.

Key activities:

  • Key specialist for the Manchester office's role as an Assuris centre of excellence for global chemicals notification (e.g. China, Korea, Taiwan, Philippines, Australia, etc).
  • Working without the need for close supervision, apply in a safe, legal, and ethical manner, technical expertise and problem-solving abilities to support Client global chemicals management compliance needs.
  • In support of Client's needs, provide delivery to include data gap analysis, scope and facilitate analytics, physico-chemical, toxicological and eco-toxicological tests/studies, preparation & submission of notification/registration dossiers, preparation of chemical safety reports / chemical safety assessments, perform hazard classification of substances and formulations and working with local global colleagues to facilitate the Client's notification needs.
  • Provide general regulatory compliance consulting for Client services and coach other team members as delegated.
  • Manage the Client's needs for Only Representative / Nominated Representative services.
  • Key expert for the Manchester office's role in providing global chemicals notification services to Client's.
  • Working with the Business Development Manager and Sales Support to follow up on new leads and requests from Clients to secure invitations to quote.
  • Prepare notification strategies, cost plans, and develop written proposals. Follow through to contract negotiation.
  • Promote Assuris' world-wide notification services through participation in webinars, seminars, conferences and Client face-to-face meetings.
  • Support Marketing with the development and maintenance of up-to-date promotional material for global chemicals management services, e.g. web pages, brochures, blogs, etc.
  • Monitor and maintain expert knowledge of applicable chemicals management regulations for those jurisdictions where Assuris is active, with an emphasis on global chemical regulation notification services.
  • Develop and maintain professional contact with Clients.
  • Organize project tel. conf. / MS Teams meetings as required.
  • Participate in Client face-to-face meetings to develop Client relationships and progress projects.
