Job Opportunity: Cost Engineer Locations: Midlothian Overview Nine Twenty are delighted to be partnering with a successful manufacturing company looking for a talented and detail-driven Cost Engineer with a solid background in fabrication. This role involves managing the preparation and delivery of technical and commercial proposals, ensuring tenders are competitive, accurate, and aligned with client needs. The position requires close collaboration with internal teams and external stakeholders to meet project specifications and deadlines effectively. Key Responsibilities Tender Development and Submission Review and analyse tender documentation to understand project scope and requirements. Prepare accurate, comprehensive proposals, including pricing, technical details, and timelines. Collaborate with internal technical and commercial teams to develop cost estimates and bills of materials (BOM). Technical Expertise and Feasibility Analysis Provide technical insight to ensure proposals meet project demands. Evaluate fabrication methodologies and recommend solutions based on project constraints. Coordinate with engineering and production teams to validate designs and ensure feasibility. Stakeholder Engagement Serve as a liaison between clients, suppliers, and subcontractors to gather essential information and clarify requirements. Attend site visits and client meetings to ensure alignment with project specifications. Cost Analysis and Budgeting Develop detailed cost breakdowns, accounting for materials, labour, subcontractor input, and overheads. Collaborate with procurement to source competitive quotes for required materials and services. Risk Assessment and Management Identify potential risks during the proposal stage and recommend mitigation strategies. Documentation and Tracking Maintain organised records of tenders, approvals, and related correspondence. Develop and update a comprehensive database of proposals for future reference. Post-Tender Engagement Support contract negotiations by providing technical clarifications as required. Facilitate a seamless transition from tender to project execution upon award. Skills and Qualifications Education and Experience Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related field; fabrication/manufacturing expertise is an advantage. 3–5 years of experience in cost estimation, proposals, or tendering, preferably in engineering, fabrication, or construction. Technical Skills Proficient in interpreting engineering drawings and industry standards. Familiarity with CAD software and other design tools is beneficial. Strong understanding of fabrication processes and materials. Competencies Strong communication, negotiation, and organisational skills. Excellent attention to detail and analytical thinking. Ability to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines. Software Proficiency Skilled in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint); experience with ERP systems and tender management tools is advantageous.
