Role Summary of the Grid Engineer:

As a Grid Engineer, you will play an essential role in ensuring that our renewable energy projects are connected to the grid efficiently and effectively. Key Responsibilities of the Grid Engineer:

  • Grid Connection Strategy: Identify and secure optimal grid connection points for new renewable energy developments across the UK’s electricity distribution and transmission networks.
  • Application & Negotiation: Prepare and submit grid connection applications, ensuring all technical and commercial details are correct. Negotiate terms with network operators to secure favourable outcomes.
  • Portfolio Management: Manage a range of accepted grid connection offers, ensuring compliance with contractual milestones and maintaining effective oversight of project progress.
  • Collaborative Problem-Solving: Work closely with Independent Connection Providers (ICPs) and design consultants to specify, commission, and execute grid-related activities such as power system studies and contestable works.
  • Integration with Projects: Collaborate with internal project management teams to ensure that grid-related tasks are seamlessly incorporated into project plans and timelines.

  • Problem-Solving Skills: The ability to analyze grid connection offers, spot technical and commercial discrepancies, and proactively seek alternative connection options to save costs or reduce connection times.
  • Communication: Skilled at presenting complex technical information to non-technical colleagues and stakeholders, ensuring clarity and understanding across the board.
