Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide core and specialist diagnostic laboratory services in Cellular Pathology (Histology).
  • Work rotationally in specified sections of the laboratory: Specimen Dissection and Core Laboratory OR Core Laboratory and Special Diagnostics.
  • Participate in specimen reception, preparation, documentation, processing, and production of histology sections for microscopic examination.
  • Assist in the training and development of junior staff.
  • Participate in Saturday rota and occasional weekend work.
  • Ensure efficient and safe use of consumables and equipment.
  • Maintain cleanliness and day-to-day maintenance of laboratory equipment.
  • Participate in quality control, quality assurance, and risk management procedures.
  • Supervise and mentor trainee biomedical scientists and other healthcare professionals.
  • Communicate effectively with all relevant staff groups and service users.

Essential Qualifications and Skills:

  • Registration with HCPC as a Biomedical Scientist.
  • BSc Honours Degree in Biomedical Science or equivalent.
  • Evidence of competency at a specialist level (e.g., IBMS Specialist Diploma).
  • Minimum two years post-registration experience in Cellular Pathology.
  • Broad knowledge and experience of Cellular Pathology techniques, including immunohistochemistry and quality assurance.
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Experience in staff training and supervision.
