Laboratory Analyst – Global Chemicals Company

Contract : 6 months

Location: Royston, UK

Salary: £17.00 – 18.00 per hour

Hours: 38 hours per week

Job purpose:

This is a full-time, temporary role as a Laboratory Analyst. Whilst undertaking this position, you will work as part of the Analytical, Calibration, Metallographic and benchtop chemistry team's

The department duties can vary and offers scope for further multi-skilling and development which primarily includes the preparation of samples for analysis in solid or liquid form using an ICP, preparing and testing material for hardness and viewing its surface/grain structure using various types of microscopes i.e. inverted microscope and SEM (Scanning electron Microscope). Other tasks include using bench top chemistry techniques to quantify elements in various material forms, chemically treating alloys of impurities.

Key Responsibilities will include:

  • To ensure all regulations regarding EHS and security are strictly observed.
  • To prepare samples for analysis submitted by approved procedure with due regard to required accuracy, precision, and delivery times.
  • To prepare standard stock solutions and calibration standards as required.
  • Ensure Volumetric Flasks of completed Test samples are disposed of appropriately and consumables stocked to minimum levels.
  • Carry out some routine analysis/tests on samples.
  • To prepare samples for ICP-OES analysis by approved procedure with due regard to required accuracy, precision, and delivery times.
  • Run samples on ICP-OES with varying ablation techniques.
  • Analyse material using XRF microfocus.
  • To ensure work is performed at minimum cost by making efficient use of time, equipment, and materials.
  • To ensure that the integrity of the samples and process are always maintained.

Candidate Requirements:

  • Bachelors or Masters in Analytical chemistry or Chemical Sciences (or related field)
  • Analytical lab experience essential
  • ICP experience desire
  • Chemistry skills desired
  • Working on an ICP and supporting bench top chemistry process for preparation of samples for analysis, must have some industrial background in this area from chemicals or pharmaceuticals.
