Job Description : Estimator (Mid/Senior)
Location: Belfast
Salary: £50,000-£70,000
On behalf of my client, I am actively recruiting for a mid/senior Estimator to work for specialist civil engineering contractor working across the UK.
Key Responsibilities:
As a Senior Estimator, you will:
- Review project drawings, contracts, and specifications to understand scope, materials, and requirements.
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and designers to gather essential project information.
- Cost Estimation: Calculate and prepare detailed cost estimates for labour, materials, equipment, and subcontractors.
- Utilize cost databases, historical data, and industry benchmarks for accuracy.
- Consider factors like permits, site conditions, and safety regulations in cost calculations.
- Collaborate with the project team to establish and monitor project budgets.
- Identify potential cost-saving measures and value engineering opportunities.
- Attend monthly CVR meetings for feedback on current projects.
- Prepare comprehensive bid packages, including cost breakdowns, schedules, and proposal documents for clients and subcontractors.
- Stay current with industry standards and regulations affecting civil engineering projects.
Candidates Must Have;
- Strong understanding of heavy civils, tunnelling, and trenchless works.
- Experience in producing winning bids for projects ranging from £500k to £20m.
- Strong writing and communication skills.
- Ability to multitask and support multiple teams in various remote locations.
- Capable of working independently on bids or as part of a larger team.
- Good contractual understanding, mainly NEC 3 and NEC 4.
- Several years of experience in civil engineering, with a focus on cost estimation.
- Strong knowledge of construction methods, materials, and industry practices.
- Proficiency in using construction estimating software and spreadsheet applications, including Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Professional certification (such as Certified Professional Estimator) is beneficial.
Desirable Skills and Qualifications:
- Auto-Cad Experience.
- Degree Educated, Working Towards Chartership.
- Site Experience in Tunnelling or Civil Engineering.
