What you'll be doing:
- Lead a specialist team of engineers to deliver commissioning, diagnostics, and defect rectification for assigned projects.
- Plan, resource, schedule, and supervise the daily activities of engineers to maximize team utilization and efficiency.
- Provide both administrative and technical supervision for engineers, including performance reviews and coordination of training and development.
- Develop and implement safe systems of work in compliance with the company's SHE (Safety, Health, and Environmental) and product safety procedures.
- Apply expertise to solve complex commissioning and diagnostic problems across various systems and equipment.
- Lead the handover of systems and present trials to ship staff.
- Advise Project and Programme teams on the creation of work order estimates and system delivery schedules.
- Provide performance data to support metrics and assess both contractual and individual performance.
- Work with technical autonomy and offer mentorship, guidance, and support to less experienced engineers and technical staff.
- Engage with customers and authorities through written communication, phone, or face-to-face interactions to discuss technical issues and proposed solutions.
- Build positive, effective relationships with customers and colleagues, adhering to the Business Code of Conduct.
Your skills and experiences:
- Qualified to HNC/HND as a minimum, and will have also served a recognised apprenticeship or equivalent experience.
- Typically requires incorporated Engineer status (or equivalent experience).
- Subject Matter Expert in an engineering discipline. Requires technical breadth & depth, is an engineering discipline expert on projects.
- A detailed understanding of Health and Safety legislation and safe systems of work and product safety as applicable to ship maintenance and repair. Qualified Risk Assessor and or trained in Managing Safety.
- Knowledge of Enterprise Resource Planning and Human Resource tools.
- A deep technical knowledge across a broad range of Systems and equipment across a range of naval platforms and extensive experience of Commissioning, fault diagnosis, defect rectification and trials particularly with internal combustion systems and propulsion equipment.
Propulsion Systems Services team:
The Propulsion Systems Services Manager is accountable to the Mechanical Services Lead and equivalent leadership for overseeing the coordination and performance of the propulsion systems services team, including staff welfare and company tasking. Key responsibilities include providing engineering support to operations, maintenance, and project teams, as well as ensuring continuous through-life support for main propulsion systems for naval vessels and any other tasks. Additionally, this role involves the management and coordination of activities within the Outboard Motor Workshop.
