Principal Instrumentation Engineer

Location: Remote

Employment Type: Contract

We are supporting our client in their search for an experienced and technically proficient Principal Instrumentation Engineer to join their team. This role demands strong leadership skills, technical expertise, and the ability to engage effectively with clients. The successful candidate will be instrumental in delivering high-quality instrumentation solutions for complex projects while ensuring adherence to industry standards and client expectations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the instrumentation discipline's technical input for projects and proposals, including preparation, review, and approval of engineering deliverables.
  • Manage and allocate tasks within the discipline team to ensure efficient delivery against project plans.
  • Ensure all engineering activities comply with national and international codes, legislation, and company/client standards and procedures.
  • Develop and prepare technical specifications and materials requisitions for systems such as control systems, safety systems, analyser houses, field instrumentation, and other related equipment.
  • Evaluate supplier quotations and prepare detailed technical bid assessments.
  • Create subcontract requisitions for installation scopes of work.
  • Provide mentorship and training to team members, including graduates and less experienced engineers, fostering development within the Electrical, Control, and Instrumentation Department.

Required Competencies and Experience:

  • Expertise in the design, specification, and integration of control systems, safety systems, and instrumentation in complex industrial environments.
  • Proven experience in managing project deliverables and leading multidisciplinary teams in regulated industries (e.g., Nuclear, Defence, Energy).
  • Familiarity with relevant codes of practice, international standards, and industry regulations.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a track record of effective client engagement and team leadership.
  • Commitment to fostering a culture of knowledge sharing, mentoring, and continuous improvement within the team.

Qualifications:

  • Degree in Instrumentation, Control Engineering, or a related field; Chartered Engineer status is advantageous.
  • Extensive experience in a senior instrumentation engineering role with exposure to client-facing responsibilities.
  • Proficiency with industry-standard tools and technologies related to instrumentation and control systems.
