The Production Design Engineer will play a vital role in designing and developing innovative products for a range of electrical products divisions. You will be involved in the complete product development lifecycle, ensuring products meet high-quality standards and align with customer and market requirements. You will also contribute to value engineering and product redesign efforts to ensure compliance with certification standards and cost efficiency. The primary role for the successful candidate will be to bring Production Engineering experience and knowledge to interpret customer requirements both written and verbal to provide a detailed, accurate, and fully compliant solution.

Duties and Responsibilities include:

  • Design & Development: Creating 2D and 3D CAD models for new electrical products, including hardware and communication systems; Utilizing 3D printing for prototyping to validate and refine designs; Producing manufacturing drawings and creating products in the company ERP platform; Collaborating with Group teams and sub-contractors to develop products.
  • Project Management: Collaborating with manufacturing, marketing, and compliance teams to ensure timely, budget-friendly project delivery; Creating and managing Engineering Change Notes (ECN); Contributing to regular product team and departmental meetings.
  • Collaboration: Collaborating with manufacturing teams to ensure designs are manufacturable and meet quality standards; Coordinating with marketing to establish unique selling points (USPs) and benefits for each product; Engaging with external partners for specialist support, such as injection moulding, PCB, or EMC design; Working with Group colleagues on collaborative projects and sharing best practices.
  • Value Engineering: Redesigning of existing products to enhance performance and ensure compliance with certification standards; Implementation of cost-effective solutions while maintaining product quality.
  • Compliance: Ensuring designs meet relevant regulatory standards, including electrical safety, EMC compliance, and industry specific standards.
  • Documentation: Creating technical data sheets, manufacturing drawings, and design documents for product launches and customer needs; Managing component information in our system, including part numbers, structuring, routing, and BOM.

Experience Required includes:

  • A minimum of 2-5 years experience within a Mechanical or Product Design in an industrial manufacturing background.
  • Proficiency in 2D and 3D CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD).
  • Previous hands-on 3D Printing experience.
  • An understanding of manufacturing processes (e.g., injection moulding, CNC machining).
  • Ability to present design concepts and solutions to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Strong appreciation of material properties.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with a creative and innovative approach to design.
  • Excellent collaboration skills to work effectively with internal teams and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to work effectively within a small, dynamic production team.
