A client within the Public Sector based in North London is currently recruiting for a Clerk of Works to join their Highways Team as soon as possible. The client is offering a full time, temporary position on an ongoing basis with the ideal candidate having experience of working within a local authority within a highways and traffic environment.

The Role

Key purpose of the role is to monitor and supervise traffic and highways works on site carried out by the term maintenance contractor, ensuring quality, compliance, and value for money on behalf of the Climate Change and Transport service. Key responsibilities will include but not be limited to:

  • Supervise contractors to ensure compliance with design drawings, specifications, works orders, and engineers’ instructions.
  • Conduct daily site inspections, assess completed work for quality and compliance, and record any snagging or defects.
  • Ensure health and safety compliance on-site, including traffic management and adherence to CDM Regulations.
  • Liaise with the Streetworks Team and contractors regarding permits and site access coordination.
  • Provide technical advice on construction processes and contribute to continuous service improvement and best value decision-making.

The Candidate

To be considered for this role you will require:

  • CSCS Supervisor card
  • MICWCI membership or equivalent professional qualification/experience
  • HND/HNC in Civil Engineering or a relevant City and Guilds Qualification

The below skills would be beneficial for the role:

  • Strong knowledge of the Highways Act 1980, NRSWA 1991, Traffic Management Act 2004, and CDM Regulations
  • Experience of managing traffic schemes and highway construction projects
  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365 and AutoCAD

The client is looking to move quickly with this role and as such are offering £35 per hour Umbrella LTD Inside IR35 (approx. £28 per hour PAYE).
