Service Care Solutions is working alongside the COVID-19 Inquiry as they need Deputy Solicitors to join their legal team. The position of Deputy Solicitor is a key role, with the Deputy Solicitors being an integral part of the Inquiry's senior legal team.
Salary: Grade C2 (£74,480 per annum)
Contract Length: 18 months
Location: Edinburgh (Hybrid – 2 days in the office)
Ltd Day Rate: £391.62
PAYE Day Rate inc. of Holiday: £331.76

Key Responsibilities of the Deputy Solicitor role:
- Be responsible for the line-management of around 6 C1 assistant solicitors, and indirect responsibility for a wider team.
- Assist the Solicitors to coordinate and project manage extensive investigations and the advisory work of the legal team.
- Work closely with the Counsel team to ensure they have the necessary material to prepare for hearings.
- Advising upon and conducting any ancillary litigation involving the Inquiry.
- Provide legal advice to the Chair, the Chief Executive and other members of the Inquiry team.
- Draft/advise on Inquiry procedures and protocols.
Essential Skills & Experience:
- Qualified solicitor or advocate in Scotland.
- Exceptional attention to detail for rigorous legal document analysis.
- Flexibility and adaptability, with a proactive approach to a variety of tasks.
- Prior experience supervising/managing a team of legal professionals, ideally within a public sector setting.
Working Pattern & Location:
- Standard hours: 35 hours per week.
- Hybrid working: typically 2 days per week in the Edinburgh office.
- Some periods, particularly around hearings, may require longer hours and on-site presence.
- Flexible and hybrid working options considered depending on role needs.
